  27.   That's  *EXACTLY* the problem I had with my Pentium. I was
  28. told by MS tech support that it was a known bug in NT, but rather
  29. than fix it, MS decided to declare the entire class of motherboards
  30. incompatible with NT. He said it was due to a particular release 
  31. of Intel SUPPORT chips. Other than turning off the cache, the only 
  32. workable solution is to change out the motherboard. I contacted
  33. _Mitac_ the company which assembled my machine. Their reply
  34. was that my machine was represented as being capable of 
  35. running what it was sold with already on the system. They said
  36. the fact that their machine could not run NT was not their problem.
  37. If I wanted a different motherboard, I would be required to pay a 
  38. trade-up fee, and they would need my machine for a minimum of two
  39. weeks after receiving it.

  41. Luckily I was still within the 30 trial period alloted for MS GUI's
  42. ( they're not operating systems ), so I returned NT to CompUSA
  43. for a refund. Someday I'll upgrade the motherboard and move to
  44. NT in one shot.
